"Familiar spirits," the Bible calls them. God calls them an "abomination".
The dictionary defines "abomination" as: Extreme disgust and hatred; abhorrence; detestation; loathing, repugnance.
Let's look at what God actually says, and what things fit into this "abomination" category.
Deut. 18:10-12 KJV:
There shalt not be found among you any one that useth divination,
[ fortune-tellers, palm readers, soothsayers ]
or an observer of times,
[ psychics, mediums, astrologers (horoscopes), past lives therapists ]
or an enchanter,
[ one who uses hypnosis or casts spells ]
or a witch,
[ followers of Darkness or Satan ]
or a charmer,
[ one who uses Ouija boards, Tarot cards, I Ching, pendulums,
automatic writing, good luck charms, crystals, talisman ]
or a consulter with familiar spirits,
[ spirit guides, yoga, ESP, mind control and phychic phenomena
]
or a wizard,
[ sorcerers, occultic magicians ]
or a necromancer .
[ one who uses seances or one who calls up the dead ].
Imaging spirits is equivalent to mental idolatry; and idolatry is not only a "detestable" thing (1 Peter 4:3 NIV), but "works of the flesh" (Gal. 5:19) which brings the "wrath of God." (Col. 3:6)
Lev. 20:6 God says, "I will set my face against anyone who consults mediums and wizards instead of me."
1 John 4:3, "And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this spirit is of the Antichrist."
Concerning Astrology specifically; what does the Bible say about it?
The Bible teaches that astrology is not only a futile (worthless) activity, but an activity so bad that its very presence indicates God's judgement has already occurred (Acts 7:42,43). As both a philosophy and practice, astrology rejects the truth concerning the living God and instead leads people to dead objects, the stars and planets. The Bible mocks astrologers and their practice in the same way it mocks idols. (Isaiah 47:13)
