(2 Kin 18:4) He removed the high places, broke down the pillars, and cut down the sacred pole. He broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the people of Israel had made offerings to it; it was called Nehushtan.
(Rom 1:23) and they exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling a mortal human being or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles.
(Rom 1:25) Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
The Israelites made the bronze serpent and pole as an idol, also burning incense to it. It was not the bronze serpent and pole that had the power of God to heal, but the obedience of Gods instruction for the people. Just as in (2 Kin 5:10) And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. The Jordan River was dirty and filthy, the river had no power to heal but Elisha's obedience made him well. It goes for our Bibles also; it's not the book but the content and personal application of the book. We have gold chains with a cross on it and sometimes a man that represent Jesus (God) on the cross, crucified. Is that not simply idols and graven images? As (Acts 17:29-30) Since we are God's offspring, we ought not to think that the deity is like gold, or silver, or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of mortals. (30) While God has overlooked the times of human ignorance, now he commands all people everywhere to repent.
Some people say that other translations other than the King James Version are not God's unadulterated Word of God. Jesus did not speak the English language nor did any of the prophets or disciples. These were a man such as you and I that translated the original Hebrew and Greek for us to read, but that was in 1611. We do not speak thy, endureth, ye, etc.. But the content of the scripture is correct, as the NIV, NKJV, RSV, NSRV, NASB, NCV, and TLB, but is much easier to read and understand.
People have set the King James Bible as a God to be worshipped (a golden snake). It should be used as what it is a reading tool of God's Word not a shrine on a coffee table or fireplace. Sometimes, I place one of my Bibles in my gym bag and put my gym bag in the trunk of my car. Oh boy, what a sin that was huh? A Brother in the Church thought I had lost my ever-loving mind. He had a New Testament in his back pocket and I told him, "at least I don't sit on mine". It is the content of the scripture that is important. God told us to put the scripture in our hearts as (Prov 3:3) says, Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart.
