I guess I should start at the beginning - not the beginning of the universe (yet), but my own beginning. One should always consider the source - I am told.
When I was young, (how young you ask?) perhaps about 10? I would look at the stars at night and wonder. What small boy doesn’t? I had heard there is a universe out there, with as many stars as there are grains of sand on all the beaches of the world. WOW, I thought, that must be a lot of stars. Space seemed endless.
But I also pondered; where do they all end? Where is the end of the space? Or, does it even have an end? And if there is an end, what’s on the other side?
My goodness, I spend the next decade trying to solve this mystery. Eventually I became a scientific investigator. No, not in the area of space, but in law enforcement. But my experience and learning in this field helped lead me to solving the mystery of space too.
The answer came to me one night as I was again pondering, what’s on the other side, or, can things just go on forever. Actually the answer was very simple. Almost too simple, but yet a fact.
The universe (stars and stuff) clearly does not go on forever. But yet, there is no end, at least not an end to space.
Yes, I know this is confusing at first; but we must recognize what SPACE IS. Once having that understanding, the rest is easy. So, let’s look at what true space really is. I’ll even make this an entire paragraph.
SPACE IS NOTHING.
Now that we have that established, it becomes obvious that nothing cannot end, because it never began... Simple huh!
Space, where the stars and stuff are, is nothing. That’s why it’s called a void. Nothing. Now then, of course there is stuff in this void, and those things we have named (most of it). They are of course, stars, planets, galaxies, clouds of plasma, super novas, and much more. Those are all things. But not the space they are located inside of. That space is NOTHING....
Okay, that mystery was solved many long years ago, when it all came to me. But then began a new quest. One which has occupied my mind for a half century. I recently watched yet another scientific program on TV. Again, they talked about the so-called “Big Bang”.. Or, the beginning of everything.
But all the scientists have a similar problem. It seems they have created this model of how the universe all began, but not quite. They have taken this model of today’s known universe, (stars and stuff) and ran this movie backwards in time, to the beginning which they now call the Big Bang. But, and here is the problem they have. They run the movie backwards in time, but not to the beginning. Nope, they stop just short of that. They can recreate the events (mathematically) clear back in time to a few nano-seconds after the actual beginning. At that point in time, their mathematics stop functioning and all the law of physics end. They can go no further, or perhaps they don’t want to go any further. If they went further back in time, they would quickly discover something they cannot or will not accept.
Now, they have established some pretty amazing things for sure. As we all know, or think we know, one of the smallest things we can think about is the atom. But the atom is made up of even smaller things like the electron. Now, that electron is supposedly trillions of times smaller than the atom itself. Lately, they have found or theorized there is even something much smaller called a neutrino. This thing is even trillions of times smaller than even the electron.
Now, it starts getting pretty amazing because running this movie backwards in time, they can trace back to a time when everything we know about - stars and stuff - are trillions of time smaller than even this illusive neutrino.
My goodness, this concept means that only a few nanoseconds after the “Big Bang” that everything we know now was the smallest thing ever known or realized.
But again, that’s where they all stop. A few nanoseconds AFTER the Big Bang.
I wanted to run the movie back even further, where math does not work and does not apply. Where man’s wisdom ends. So, let’s do that..... Be brave...
The movie has started, and we are watching it progress, back in time.
We see everything we know heading back toward it’s center (where ever that is?). Everything is collapsing onto itself in our backward running movie. Smaller and smaller it becomes. Smaller than a galaxy, smaller than a star, smaller than a planet, smaller than a human, smaller than an atom, smaller than an electron, even smaller than a neutrino. YES, even smaller than the present scientists claim that it all was just after the beginning. And now, we go further yet. A place where no scientist is allowed. (smile)
Back we go, into the unknown. Yes, into the void....
But let’s stop right here for our own nanosecond. Let’s see what word VOID means?
VOID: A state of non-existence...
OH MY..... Then is this the answer to the mystery that the scientist avoid? They avoid the void?
YES,,, in fact this is exactly what they do and exactly what happens when you have the courage, or in my case - the curiosity, to continue.
OKAY, now we are truly there - at the REAL beginning. And what do we see there? NOTHING...... It’s a viod. Nothing exists...
WOW, I’m back to the same answer I discovered a half century ago, but never put 2 and 2 together. I’m much older now and perhaps a bit more courageous? But running this movie or model back in time, there can be no other solution. It all began as NOTHING....
All the stars and galaxies began as nothing. Then to come into existence, expand and to be encased in even more nothing we call space.
As with anything I have ever investigated or evaluated, there should always be some sort of verification of a claim. Okay, let’s do just that. We do have another source besides our own observations and conclusions.
The Bible:
The first book of the Bible called Genesis (meaning beginning).
Chapter one, verse one and two.
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (everything)
2 And the earth was without form, and void;
The heaven and earth (meaning everything of course) was without form and VOID. There’s that word again, VOID... It did not exist before that time.
Everything came from nothing to exist inside a nothing we call space.
Now that we have resolved that; let’s even be bolder and see what does exist in all that nothing of space?
The scientists have called our universe of something into two different “things”; matter and energy. But what if there is no matter at all, and only energy? Actually some modern scientist are coming to this conclusion too. Einstein spent his later years trying to write the theory of everything. But he failed and was very disappointed at his inability to figure it all out. He had some nice ideas that even work pretty well. But even Einstein said that one plus one equals approximately two. Not everything can be put into mathematical boxes.
Mathematics and all of the laws of physics fails us at the point in time where the universe began. All of man’s theories fail at that point. Nothing works, because it all began with nothing to become something. And that is beyond math and beyond human comprehension. We cannot solve the mysteries of a spiritual pre-existence with secular limitations. We must turn to God for the true answers.
Is everything we know of, or assume we know of, simply God’s Breath?
YES......... The answer is YES... Not a breath as we understand it, but yes!
Summary: (if you must)
I like to keep things SIMPLE. So, let's see if we can do that.
We have established what Space is - NOTHING AT ALL. Space does not exist. It's nothing.
But in all this nothing we call space, are other things. We call these things stars and planets and moons and stuff. Making a model of how they are now, and that they are expanding, we can make a model and run it backwards.
When we run it backwards, it all comes together again to a very small point, and when we keep going backwards, it ends up back to NOTHING again.
So, it's very easy then to realize that before anything existed, there was NOTHING.... ( a void )
Okay, let me see then: Before there was anything, there was nothing at all.
Can you imagine that it all just created itself from nothing? That's perhaps the most rediculous thing I've ever thought of, and if anything was every "impossible", that is.
Then there is only one other solution - only one. That there MUST BE some type of super intelligent and super powerful entity. Some call this "religion", if we believe this entity is a "God". OKAY, I won't argue with that. I suppose that to believe such a thing requires what's called "faith". I do not agree with this entirely. To believe something else requires even more faith. To believe that nothing just happen to make everything all on its own. Rediculous. That requires even more faith than to believe in a God.
So, Evolution (with a capital "E") cannot be. It's totally impossible. No matter how much faith you have, it simply cannot be. Oh yes, there is such a thing as evolution, of course. I used to be younger, but I evolved into what I am today. I'm not too happy about that, but it's true never-the-less.
What requires far less faith is what we call religion, but in fact is less religious in nature than athiesm is. To believe that things simply evolved from nothing all on their own, is what I would call a super religion, not being based on any set of facts or logic whatsoever. Simply blind faith, and a super belief that there cannot be a supreme being or intelligence only because of this blind faith.
I believe, and am totally convinced, BASED ON FACT and UPON SCIENCE, that there MUST BE A GOD.
There simply are no other options left to consider.
Well, of course there had to be a Chapter Two:
Wow, now that’s cute. Instead of saying GOD; we can just define what a God would be doing and call it intelligent design. Hee hee.....
Apparently many people want to include this new description as yet one more possibility for the existence of everything, in our classrooms.... Sounds pretty good to me? BUT, there seems to be a slight problem? Many scientists say this is NOT science and even the consideration or discussion of such a think does NOT belong in the classroom - that it is totally based on Faith and not on Proven Science.
OH????? Well, let’s take a look at what is faith and what is science?
I recently watched a talk on C-Span called, “Death by Black Hole, and Other Cosmic Quandaries.” It’s a book written by, Neil DeGrasse Tyson. He seems to be a highly intelligent man and a renown scientist. He is also very articulate and humorous in his talk. I enjoyed it thoroughly. You can find it on the Internet.
However, as intelligent as this man is, he is against the idea of Intelligent Design. Well, let’s get into his own topic of a Black Hole, and other Cosmic Quandaries.
He gave the explanation that often in mankind’s history, we would try to figure out why something does this or that. When we could not figure out the answer; mankind would simple say - Oh, that must be from God, and we can’t understand that. Then, he went on to tell us that whenever this happened, years later, mankind would discover things to explain WHY this did happen. He gave good examples.... As would be expected - (smile).
As he was telling about all this, in a very informative, understandable and humorous way, I was thinking about the little I knew about a Black Hole and the way mankind figured out there is such a thing. You can’t see a Black Hole - Of course not; else why would they call it a Black HOLE?
But man was able to see there was a HOLE in space where nothing seemed to be? Well, out of FAITH, that there HAD TO BE something there; they said it is something and they gave that something a NAME..... (out of faith)... Hmmmmm...
There are other issues; such as the Dark Matter that many scientists claim to be “OUT THERE”.
What is this thing? OH, they don’t know. They can’t see it, or detect it in anyway at all. But since all the “stuff” they do know about (or say they do) can’t account for all the gravitational pull around the universe; they simple say (OUT OF FAITH) that there has to be something and they named it Dark Matter..... (Hee hee)
Now they don’t stop there either. Some now claim there MUST BE a parallel universe. Oh, an not just one, but many many.... How do they know that? Oh,,, out of faith of course, because they cannot prove that these things exist at all. On the other hand; some people (like myself) claim that since everything in the universe came form nothing at all, it seems perfectly logical that there MUST BE some kind of Intelligent Design. Call it faith if you like? Or, call it PURE LOGIC? Whatever you call it, it should be something worth “considering” as a “possibility” for the explanation how everything got here in the beginning...
Hmm, there is also a degree of evidence on this issue because we have the Bible. At least it’s something testified to as having come directly from this Intelligent Design. Of course to believe this requires “faith”.
What’s the difference???
If I have to settle for something with at least a “little” evidence (Bible) and something that is terribly logical, OVER something that is just wild speculation - you don’t have to be a cosmologist or any other kind of scientist to figure out where I will cast my vote.
Summary:
If we look back in the history of science, and even continuing to this very day; scientists have often declared this or that as being TRUE. Then 5, 10 or 50 years later, completely reverse themselves. They do it all the time.
I think the “CONSIDERATION” of some entity with an intelligence being the creator of everything in the beginning only makes good science. To ignore it - would not be very scientific at all, and only makes Science the most faith based religion of all time.
Examples: First; science said the speed of sound could not be broken. Then it was. Then scientists said, the speed of light is constant and never changes. Wrong again, they slow down light for certain applications and they have exceded the speed of light in the lab - 5 times the speed of light. Why did they say those things in the first place? Because of FAITH.... They simply BELIEVED them to be true.
Now, they say there may be such thing as a STRING BUBBLES, and a PARALLEL UNIVERSE or even millions and billions of PARALLEL universes. Why do they say such things? Well, they don't say for certain, but they do give CONSIDERATION to the POSSIBILITY simply on FAITH.... Well? What's the difference? They can't prove those concepts, but they CHOOSE to CONSIDER them as POSSIBILITIES. Again, what's the difference? Why can't they at least CONSIDER the POSSIBILITY that the universe and everything in it "MIGHT HAVE BEEN DESIGNED BY SOMETHING INTELLIGENT?
Oh no, they say. That is not scientific..... Which takes more FAITH? Believing in something that can't be proven or seen or studied in anyway at all, like parallel universes? Or believing in something we have witnesses to, and is certainly HIGHLY LOGICAL...
I only wish my FAITH in God was a strong as those types of scientists who believe there cannot be a GOD...
